The Borough has been
informed that the fees associated with credit card charges
will no longer be absorbed by the bank. These charges, which
exceeded $23,000 last year, are beyond the ability of the
Borough of Bogota to absorb. Nor is it reasonable to expect
residents who do not use credit cards for tax payments to
share in paying those fees. We will continue to accept
credit cards to pay for property taxes with the following
change in policy. We are converting from a fee based system
of credit card payments to a installing a convenience fee
affecting only those who choose to use a credit card to pay
real estate taxes. Each time a taxpayer uses a credit card
to pay their real estate taxes they will be required to
acknowledge that a convenience fee of 2 ˝% of the
transaction shall be added to the tax payment. This was the
prior fee charged by the credit card company to use the
card. At this time the state of the technology is such that,
the “swipe machines” in Borough Hall cannot accept
convenience fee payments so they cannot be used to make
payments. We are working towards installing a dedicated
computer terminal in the tax collector’s office for the
purpose of paying taxes via credit card, as of this date, it
is not ready. When available for residential use a notice
will be posted on the Borough’s webpage.
